David D. Demarest was born near Hackensack, NJ on July 30, 1819. He earned his A.B. degree from Rutgers College in 1837. He also received an A.M from New Brunswick Seminary in 1840, a D.D. from the College of New Jersey (Princeton) in 1857, and an LL.D. from Rutgers in 1892. A clergyman with the Reformed Church of America, he was a professor in New Brunswick Seminary from 1865-98, and a Rutgers Trustee from 1858-98, serving as Secretary from 1866-98.
